Coconut Oil Makes Your Dandruff Worse
The fungus causing your dandruff feeds on oils. Its main fuel source is the sebum made by your pores, but adding extra oils (like coconut) is like pouring gas on the fire.
Even though coconut oil is typically antifungal, it’s also full of lauric acid which strengthens the Malassezia fungus.
Why MCT Oil Is Safe
MCT (medium chain triglyceride) oil is made by distilling coconuts to remove the longer chain fatty acids - which feed the Malassezia fungus - while harnessing caprylic (C8) and capric (C10) acid, which the fungus can’t use as fuel.

Before getting your good nights rest, apply a generous amount of moisturizer to your scalp.

In the morning, wash it out with a Malassezia-safe shampoo and enjoy a peaceful scalp all day long.
Note: If you shower at night, follow the same steps as above but allow the moisturizer to absorb into your scalp for at least two hours before washing.
For textured hair, this scalp moisturizer also works great as a leave-in since the ingredients will naturally absorb into your skin. Especially for protective styles! Simply apply it 2-3x a week (or daily if you’d like) to keep your scalp happy and healthy.

This is my holy grail out of all of the products. At first I ordered the shampoo, the facial moisturizer, and the serum. I liked that for my face but when it came to my scalp it felt like something was missing. My SD has always hurt and it made my scalp feel sore. After adding the MCT moisturizer I finally felt relief from the sensitivity and the soreness. Its also when I finally started to see less flaking, fuller hair, and less itching. For me, I think the rest of the line without the MCT moisturizer wasnt hydrating enough. I will continue to buy all of the products but I'm particularly pleased with this one.

This scalp moisturizer has been the perfect addition to my hair routine. I already loved the Derma Zen shampoo and serum combo, which cleared my flakes and itching, but I did not like having a dry-looking scalp. September of 2024, I decided that I couldn't take it anymore and maybe if I didn't have that much hair on my head it wouldn't itch me so much. The itch was unbearable, the scratching was even worst, I would be digging like a crazy person, and I have a medical job that I can't scratch for long hours. So, I shaved my head, not just cut my hair but shaved my entire hair off looking for some sort of relief. The only help I got was that now I can wash my head everyday which gave me much needed peace, but it wasn't the solution. Wanting my hair back I decided to regrow in January 2025. But there it was the itching, the scratching, the flaking, the itching, the scratching, the flaking. I was once again going silently mad while watching everyone live a scratch free, whatever hairstyle life they wanted. July 2025 I've had enough and 3 days after yet another shaving, I stumbled on ad for Derma Zen. I read, cause I will read anything that promises relief and what they said made sense. I knew I reactive to coconut oil products but over the years forgotten about it.
